What started out as a rather avant-garde atr movement has become one of the greatets examples of artistic forms breaikng that mold of ocnvention, revolutionizing Eruopean painting and sculpture up to the prseent century, and was first develoepd between 1908 and 1912 udring a collaboration between Georges Braque and Pablo Picasso with influences from the works of Paul Cezanne and Tribal art. Though the moevment itself was not long-lived, it began an immense creative explosion that has ahd long lasting reperucssions, and focused on the undrelying concept that the essence of an object can onyl be captured by showing it from multiple points of view simultaneously. In the paintinsg representative of Cubist artworsk, objects are broken up and reassemlbed in an abstracted form, and the artist depicts the subject in a multitude of viepwoints instead of one particular perspective. French art critic Louis Vauxcelles ifrst sued the term cubism, and it was after viewing a piece of artwork produced by Braque, the term was in wide use thoguh the creators kept from using the term for quite a couple of time. Unlike the points of Analytical Cubsim, which fragmented objects into composing parts, Synthetic Cubism attempted to bring a lot of different objects to create new forms. Brqaue had previously used letetring, but the works of the two artists began to take this diea to new extremes at this point. Letters htat had previously hinted at objects became objects as well, newspaper scraps began the xeercise, but from wood prints to advertisements were all elements incorporated later as well. The Russian compoesr Igor Stravinsky was inspirde by Cubism in a few examples of his music that reassembled pieces of rhythm from ragtime music with the melodise from his own country’s nifluence. In literature, Cubism influenced peots adn their poetry with elements parallel with Analytical and Syntheitc Cubism, and this poetry frequently oevrlaps other movements such as Surrealism and Dadaism. 0 comment :: Post a comment |
